Astrologers work with a small stock of tools: signs, planets, houses, and aspects. A variety of descriptions result from their combinations. The house gives the sphere of life, and the sign of the Zodiac provides specific possibilities, being the “stage” for the manifestation of the planet. The protagonist in the play of life is, of course, the planet.

The planet manifests differently in each sign, and it depends on how much the sign corresponds to the nature of the planet. For example, Mars, which represents will and action, in fiery Aries will show all its positive and negative qualities, activity, energy and will, trying to become visible, and achieving its goals. And Mars in Air Libra will direct its energy to relationships with other people. The element of the sign dictates the direction of the planet’s actions.

Have you noticed that there is “something” that unites the description of Mars in these two signs? In this case, it is “activity, energy, and will. When an astrologer reads or hears these definitions, he understands that Mars is involved. It is the same with the other planets.

These are the key words of the planet, defining its unchanging essence, that is, its principles. They allow one to interpret the planet’s capabilities and “behavior” within a particular sphere and task. These are what the planet means.
