All charts, be it a horoscope for a week or a natal chart, are made according to a specific methodology based on geometric constructions and mathematical calculations. For a particular point in time (it can be any date) astrologer calculates the position of celestial bodies, he also uses geographical coordinates of the event.

To understand what a horoscope is, you need to imagine the ecliptic – a circle on which the projection of the planets is plotted. It is divided into 12 sectors, each of which is assigned a specific symbol. An analysis of the positions of the heavenly ones shows that each of them falls into one of the segments of the ecliptic, i.e. into a particular sign of the zodiac.

The totality of the data on the coordinates of the luminaries and planets forms the cosmogram of the horoscope.

The basis of astrological description is the interpretation of the scheme, obtained from a symbolic image of the firmament. As a rule, the process of its construction takes quite a long time and requires thorough training of a horoscope specialist.

The fact that not only the position of the Sun, but also the positions of all the planets in the system play a decisive role in human destiny, is best demonstrated by a natal chart.

It is a kind of personal horoscope, relating to the time of birth.

It takes into account not only the date, but also the geographic coordinates and the most accurate time of day. It is believed that even because of the difference of a few minutes, people born on the same day may have completely different traits of character and destiny.

Constructing a horoscope

In general, the method of constructing a horoscope is as follows:

The positions of the planets, the Sun, the Moon and other celestial bodies are calculated for the moment of interest. Ecliptic longitudes of celestial bodies, expressed in angular degrees, are used as coordinates. The ecliptic in the horoscope is divided into zodiac signs. The ecliptic longitudes determine which sign of the zodiac the celestial body falls into.

The angular distances between celestial bodies are calculated. If the angular distance is the value of one of the aspects accepted in astrology, the celestial bodies in question are said to be in this aspect. In a horoscope, the planets in aspect are connected by a straight line segment.

To characterize the state of the celestial sphere in relation to the place of the event, the points of intersection of the ecliptic with the horizon and the points of intersection with the celestial meridian are calculated using geographic coordinates, and the ecliptic is further divided into 12 sectors called horoscopic houses in addition to the zodiacal signs. All data is entered into the cosmogram. This completes the construction of the horoscope.

Thus, the position of a celestial body in the horoscope is characterized by its position in the sign of the zodiac, house of the horoscope, and aspects with other heavenly bodies. In addition to celestial bodies, fictitious objects can also be used in the horoscope:

  • Black (Lilith);
  • White Moon (Selene);
  • Lunar Nodes;
  • Arabian points (lots);
  • Transneptunian (Uranian) planets, etc.

In 1948, the American psychologist and professor Bertram Forer offered his students a test, promising that the answers to the questions would provide an accurate portrait of each student’s personality.

A week later, Forer handed out the test results to the students and asked them to mark how true they were. The average score was 4.3 out of 5. But the trick was that the results were not personalized. All students received shuffled theses from 13 items that the scientist borrowed from horoscopes. Here are some of them:

You have a lot of untapped potential in you.
You pride yourself on independent thinking and do not believe in empty claims without convincing evidence.
You are self-critical.
Sometimes you worry: Did you make the right decision? Did you do what was right?
Outwardly you are disciplined and capable of self-control, although inwardly you feel insecure and insecure.

Students had to rate each statement on a scale of zero to five, where five corresponded to “that describes me very accurately.” So Forer first confirmed the “Barnum effect,” a trick of fortune tellers and charlatans who use vague phrases in their predictions.

The term “Barnum Effect” was introduced in 1956 by American psychologist Paul Meehl. He named the technique after the famous American showman Phineas Barnum. The bottom line is that people tend to believe general predictions about their lives, but only if these predictions are positive.

What Science Says About Horoscopes
In 1985, the scientific journal Nature published a piece that proved: astrologers cannot match a person’s natal chart with their personal characteristics. American physicist Sean Carlson conducted an experiment in three stages. In the first phase, he recruited 116 volunteers and ordered for them horoscopes from a “serious” astrologer. At the second stage, Carlson asked psychologists to write character descriptions for each subject. Finally, at the third stage, the physicist found 28 astrologers, showed them his horoscopes and attached three psychological characteristics to each of them: the “star specialists” were to correlate them. Only 39 out of 116 variants matched. In scientific research this means that the result was obtained by trial and error.

In 1958, Australian and Canadian scientists Jeffrey Dean and Ivan Kelly recorded 2,000 babies who were born a few minutes apart. Over the next decades, Dean and Kelly studied more than 100 different characteristics, including occupation, anxiety levels, aggressiveness, sociability, IQ levels and abilities in sports, math and reading. The experiment showed that among the subjects were not one hundred percent “twins,” although according to the logic of astrologers, they should have the same personality traits and talents.

A natal chart (natal horoscope) is a person’s personal horoscope.
This map is based on the exact time and place of a person’s birth. It describes the features of his personality, indicates the patterns of fate, determines the talents and abilities, opportunities, goals and ways to achieve them. This is the potential that is laid down at birth.

A synastry chart is a map of overlap (self + other). It describes the relationship between two people: spouses, relatives, lovers, friends, business partners, colleagues in the workplace. Such a map allows you to see possible stumbling blocks and to find a way around them.

A solar chart is an astrological chart based on a date of birth in relation to a current year or any other year. Allows the astrologer to make a forecast of main events for any year you are interested in.

The horary chart. This is a very powerful system of knowledge; extremely useful when you need to get a specific “yes” or “no” answer quickly. It is unique in that the astrologer does not need to know the time and place of birth of the person asking the question. The basis of the work is a map drawn at the time the question is asked. It allows, for example, to find a missing item. Horary astrology was especially popular in ancient times, when people did not always know the day of their birth.

An elective chart is a chart of timing. It allows you to determine the most auspicious day and time for starting an important case, for a serious action, etc. The principle is the same as in natal astrology: the moment of the beginning (birth) influences the patterns of development (life). The methods of elective astrology are used to select favorable times for marriages, travel, concluding and signing contracts, buying real estate, public speaking, etc.

An individual horoscope is the only and unique, even for twins and twins, cosmic passport fixed at the time of your birth, which has no analogues. In an individual horoscope each planet is located in a certain sign of the Zodiac and house, at a certain angle (aspect) to another planet. This is why each person is unique, inimitable and has only one inherent potentialities.

An astrologer can help you learn how to make the best use of the strengths and weaknesses of your personality, where to channel the energy of action, to realize the abilities inherent in you. He will also tell you when to use the opportunities given by destiny, so as not to miss sometimes the only chance you have to reach the desired result in any sphere of life.

What is the astrologer’s primary objective?
The primary objective of the astrologer is to translate the language of astrology into a language that is understandable and acceptable to the person who came for consultation. Only with the help of an individual horoscope can one predict when there will be the most favorable opportunities: to get married, to marry, to conclude or terminate a business agreement, etc. What profession to choose based on certain inclinations, how to choose the right husband or wife, when to buy or sell real estate, etc.

Of course you can not go to an astrologer and live unconsciously according to your horoscope. Then at the time of making important decisions, you will make choices based solely on the mood you will be in at the time, on how much you yourself understand the importance of the decision, the seriousness of the moment, and how ready you are as a person. You are blindly making a decision. It’s good if your intuition has not failed you and the choice will be correct.
